Dr. Bob's Retirement
Godspeed, Dr. Bob
On Sunday, June 22nd, we celebrated the 40-year ministry of our Senior Pastor, Dr. C. Robert Allred. We call it 40 years because he received his first circuit appointment in the North Georgia Conference 40 years ago, but Dr. Bob was called to ministry many years before that. The son of a United Methodist pastor, Dr. Bob was born and reared in North Carolina, received his BA from Southern Wesleyan University, and his M.Div. and Th.D. from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Dr. Bob has been influenced by the evangelism of John Wesley, the writings of C. S. Lewis, and his deep love for Jesus Christ, the Church, and its people.
Over these many years, Dr. Bob and his wife Marilyn have served churches in cities all over North Georgia, including Augusta, Rome, Carrollton, Atlanta (Atlanta First UMC), and twice here in Sandy Springs. They also managed to travel each summer throughout the United States with their daughters, Lynn and Candy, in a pop-up camper that they pulled behind their station wagon. More recently, they have traveled outside the country with their now grown daughters and their husbands.
In retirement, there will no doubt be more traveling and much more time available to spend with friends and family, especially 2-year old granddaughter, Charlotte. We wish the Allreds Godspeed in their future travels and their continued faith-journey.
