Children @ St. John

Welcome to St John Children’s Ministry.  Children are an important part of our church community.  Our ministry encourages children to learn to love God and others through Sunday School, community service projects and fellowship opportunities so that they might grow in faith and their relationship with Jesus Christ and each other.

Sunday mornings

Sunday mornings are a fun, engaging time for children at St. John.

Mornings start with Sunday School Classes at 9:30 am.  We have classes for 3 year olds through 2nd grade with Mr. Bob (Room 16), and 3rd grade through 5th grade with Ms. Nancy (Disciple Room).

For the younger children, we have a nursery that opens at 9:15 am so parents have plenty of time to drop off their children, grab a cup of coffee, and make it to their small group by 9:30 am.

After Sunday School at 10:15 am, parents should pick up their children on their way to worship service (which starts at 10:30 am).  Children in the nursery can stay in the nursery until 12:00 noon or can be picked up by their parents to attend worship service.  During worship service, immediately following "Children's Moment," children ages 3 through 1st grade may attend "Extended Session," which is a fun and age-appropriate worship experience that includes music, stories, crafts and prayer.  Extended Session is held in room 10 with Ms. Nancy (see worship bulletin for more details).

Be on the lookout for the special Children's Bulletins right outside the sanctuary.  They contain activities and coloring that correspond with the sermon message to help engage your children during worship service.  They also contain information about what's happening in the children's ministry.

The children decorated care packages and wrote notes of encouragement for the church's college students and filled 6 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Special Sundays

Every Sunday is special at St. John, but here are some monthly special events you'll want to make note of:

  • Breakfast is served. On the first Sunday of each month, we have a breakfast buffet for children and their parents starting at 9:15 am in the Fellowship Hall.

  • 2nd Sunday Service Project. On the second Sunday of each month, children and their parents meet in the Fellowship Hall immediately after worship to engage in service projects. Some recent examples include: helping fill operation Christmas child boxes, writing notes to members of our communities, shopping trips to fill the pantry at the Community Action Center, and making hygiene kits for relief efforts after the recent hurricanes.

  • 4th Sunday Bible Verse Challenge. The Bible Verse Challenge encourages children to learn Bible verses, prayers, hymns, and creeds that we use in our worship service and commit them to memory. We meet every 4th Sunday at 9:15 am in the Fellowship Hall.

Other special events

Throughout the year, we have several community-wide events where we just have fun and revel in God's world.  For example, we recently went to Uncle Shuck's Corn Maze for a family field trip and held a family movie night at the church.
